Tomorrow is election day!!!
In Encinitas Proposition F and G will determine wehether people who rent private homes for 30 days or less should pay the same tourist tax that hotel guests are charged.
Proposition F would levy a 8% tax occupancy to short term rentals and would go into a general fund and proposition G would levy a 2% tax and this money would go into a fund for adding sand and stabilizing bluffs on the city coastal line.
The 10% overall tax rate would be identical to the amount hotel guests pay on their room bill. Some feel that short-term renters need to pay their share. Such as lifeguards and law enforcement. However some feel that this is the citys latest tactic for tyring to discourage homeowners from renting thier homes out, to control the noise and traffic around the beach.
Carlsbad….Has Proposition D which will let voters decide whether to adopt a city charter, akin to a local constitution. The city wants this to have more authority over some governmental affairs, such as financing, establishing quorums and awarding contracts.
If you have an opinion about these propositions I recommend you get out and vote!
